Lucca Italy

sunny 22 °C

Our next stop was Lucca for 3 nights to explore the local area starting with Cinque Terre.

Lucca is a city on the Serchio river in Italy’s Tuscany region. It’s known for the well-preserved Renaissance walls encircling its historic city center and its cobblestone streets. Broad, tree-lined pathways along the tops of these massive 16th- and 17th-century ramparts are popular for strolling and cycling. Casa di Puccini, where the great opera composer was born, is now a house museum. ― Google

Our hotel in the center of the picture - Hotel Rex, nice location just outside the wall.

Our drive to Lucca from Modena-Montale area was on a very winding road with lots of switch backs. It was a lot winding-er than this shows!

We stopped in Pievepelago on the way for coffee.
We love doing this, the chef had been to BC fishing.
If you want a better idea of the road check out this link and zoom out, we were on SS12.

Just past Pievepelago was Abetone, a ski area, didn't get any pictures of this but it was quite something.

This is Lucchio on the side of a mountain, I really wanted to go up there but we carried on.
